Maths Teacher | Havering
The Opportunity
Are you a logical thinker with a passion for problem-solving and the ability to make complex equations accessible to all? Can you inspire students to see the beauty and utility of Mathematics in a borough that bridges the gap between London’s urban energy and the suburbs of Essex?
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Maths Teacher to join a forward-thinking department in Havering. This is an opportunity to work in a borough that is rapidly becoming a destination for families seeking high educational standards. We are looking for an educator who can build mathematical confidence, close attainment gaps, and prepare students for the demands of a data-driven world.
Core Responsibilities
Curriculum Excellence: Delivering engaging, high-impact lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with opportunities to teach A-Level Mathematics or Further Maths for qualified candidates.
Mastery Approach: Implementing "Maths Mastery" principles to ensure students develop a deep, long-term, and adaptable understanding of the subject, rather than just memorising procedures.
GCSE Success: Preparing Year 11 cohorts for the GCSE (Higher and Foundation) tiers, using diagnostic assessments to tailor interventions and support every student in achieving their target grade.
Numeracy Across the Curriculum: Collaborating with other departments to ensure that mathematical skills are reinforced in Science, Geography, and Technology, raising the profile of numeracy school-wide.
Data-Informed Instruction: Utilising the school’s tracking systems to monitor student progress, identifying underperformance early and deploying effective "catch-up" strategies.
Pastoral Care: Acting as a Form Tutor, supporting the holistic development of students and maintaining strong communication with parents regarding academic and social progress.
Why This School?
Havering’s Growth: Work in a borough undergoing significant investment, offering a blend of traditional community values and modern, well-resourced school facilities.
Professional Collaboration: Join a Mathematics faculty that values team-planning and the sharing of innovative resources, reducing individual workload while maintaining high standards.
Bespoke CPD: Benefit from a structured induction programme and ongoing training in Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), Cognitive Load Theory, and digital learning tools (e.g., HegartyMaths, Sparx).
Work-Life Balance: Access a school that utilises "collaborative marking" and efficient feedback policies designed to give teachers more time for high-quality lesson design.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications: Must hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a degree in Mathematics or a highly numerate discipline (e.g., Engineering, Physics). ECTs are encouraged to apply.
Subject Passion: A genuine enthusiasm for Mathematics that is infectious, helping to dispel "maths anxiety" and fostering a "can-do" culture in the classroom.
Pedagogical Skill: The ability to break down abstract concepts into concrete steps, using scaffolding and challenge to push students of all prior attainment levels.
Character: A resilient, reflective, and patient educator who is committed to the school’s ethos of inclusion and high expectations for all.
