School Receptionist | Sheffield
The Opportunity
Are you the ultimate multi-tasker with a friendly face and a calm head? Can you be the professional "front of house" for a busy educational community in the heart of the Steel City?
We are seeking an organised and personable School Receptionist to join a vibrant administrative team in Sheffield. As the first point of contact for students, parents, and visitors, you will play a vital role in the daily life of the school. Located in a city famous for its seven hills and friendly character, this school needs someone who can balance high-level administrative duties with a warm, welcoming approach.
Core Responsibilities
Front of House Excellence: Serving as the primary point of contact for all visitors, ensuring a professional welcome while maintaining rigorous safeguarding and sign-in procedures.
Communication Hub: Managing a busy switchboard, directing calls efficiently, and handling high volumes of emails with accuracy and discretion.
Student Support: Assisting students with daily enquiries—from forgotten PE kits to lost property—and providing a calm presence for those feeling unwell or anxious.
Administrative Operations: Supporting the wider office with tasks such as data entry (using systems like SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom), filing, and the distribution of school correspondence.
Safeguarding Vigilance: Monitoring the main entrance and ensuring that all visitors are appropriately vetted and badged in line with "Keeping Children Safe in Education" (KCSIE) guidelines.
Attendance Coordination: Assisting the attendance officer by recording late arrivals and managing the "signing out" process for students with appointments.
Why This School?
Sheffield’s Community Spirit: Work in a "Large Village" city where strong relationships are at the heart of everything, providing a rewarding environment for a people-focused professional.
Supportive Office Team: Join a close-knit administrative department that values collaboration, humor, and mutual support during the morning "rush hour."
Central Hub Role: Occupy a position that interacts with everyone—from the Headteacher to the Site Team—giving you a unique and holistic view of how a school functions.
Professional Development: Access to training in Safeguarding, First Aid, and specialist school management software (MIS), with pathways toward Senior Administrator or Office Manager roles.
Candidate Profile
Experience: Previous experience in a reception or administrative role is essential; experience within an educational setting is highly desirable.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn school-specific databases quickly.
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to remain polite and professional under pressure.
Character: A resilient, proactive, and empathetic individual who can handle sensitive information with confidentiality and "think on their feet."
