A prestigious and well-established school in Northampton is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Business Manager to play a key role in the operational and financial leadership of the school. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head and senior leadership team to ensure the efficient management of the school’s business operations, supporting its long-term sustainability and day-to-day effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Provide strategic leadership across the school’s business and operational functions
Support the Head and Governors in financial planning and long-term strategy
Contribute to whole-school development planning and organisational effectiveness
Lead on operational improvement initiatives and drive efficiencies
Finance & Resource Management
Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and monitoring of expenditure
Ensure strong financial controls, compliance, and value for money
Manage procurement, contracts, and supplier relationships
Support income generation and identify opportunities for cost efficiency
Operations & Compliance
Lead key operational areas including estates, facilities, health & safety, ICT, and support services
Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and safeguarding requirements
Oversee risk management processes and business continuity planning
Manage capital projects and site developments
People Management
Line manage and support non-teaching staff, fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture
Oversee HR processes in partnership with relevant colleagues, including recruitment and staff development
Promote effective communication across operational teams and the wider school
Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with staff, parents, governors, and external partners
Provide clear and professional reporting to senior leaders and governing bodies
Support school events and represent the school in a professional capacity where required
Wider School Contribution
Contribute to the broader life of the school, including events, open days, and community initiatives
Engage in ongoing professional development

Person Specification
Essential
Degree or equivalent professional qualification
Significant experience in business, finance, or operational management
Strong financial acumen and strategic thinking ability
Experience managing complex operations and leading teams
Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
Desirable
Professional qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent)
Experience within an educational or independent school setting
Experience managing estates or capital projects
