Are you a practical, "hands-on" individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and high-functioning environment?
We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Site Assistant to join a dedicated estates team in Northampton. In a town known for its historic market square and its modern role as a central logistics hub, this school is looking for a proactive individual to ensure the campus remains a first-class learning environment. Whether it’s a minor repair or preparing the hall for a major event, your work will be the foundation of the school's daily success.
Core Responsibilities
General Maintenance: Carrying out first-line repairs and maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and decorating to keep the school in peak condition.
Site Security: Assisting with the opening and closing of the school premises, ensuring all buildings are secure, alarms are set, and any breaches are reported immediately.
Health & Safety Compliance: Conducting regular safety checks, including fire alarm testing, water temperature monitoring (Legionella prevention), and playground equipment inspections.
Porterage & Logistics: Setting up furniture for assemblies, examinations, and parents' evenings, as well as handling the delivery and distribution of heavy goods across the site.
Environmental Care: Ensuring the school grounds are tidy and safe, including litter picking, basic gardening, and emergency gritting or snow clearance during winter months.
Why This School?
Northampton’s Central Hub: Work in a well-connected town with easy access to the M1 and excellent local amenities.
Dedicated Estates Team: Join a supportive and experienced Site Manager and a team of caretakers who value a "common sense" approach and strong work ethic.
Modern Equipment: Benefit from a well-stocked workshop and modern machinery to help you complete tasks efficiently and safely.
Professional Growth: Access to certified training in Health & Safety (IOSH), Manual Handling, COSHH, and specialized trades to help you advance in facilities management.
Candidate Profile
Experience: Proven experience in a caretaking, site maintenance, or a trade background (plumbing, electrical, or carpentry) is highly desirable.
Practical Skills: A "Jack-of-all-trades" ability to troubleshoot physical issues and use a variety of hand and power tools safely.
Reliability: A punctual and flexible approach to working hours, including a willingness to support occasional evening or weekend school events.
Character: A friendly, approachable manner with students and staff, and the physical fitness required to navigate a large campus and handle heavy lifting.
