A successful and oversubscribed 11–18 academy in Birmingham is seeking an ambitious and strategic Head of Geography to lead its well-established Humanities faculty. This large secondary school serves a diverse and vibrant community and is recognised locally for its strong academic progress, calm learning environment and clear leadership structures.
Geography is a popular and successful subject within the school, with strong GCSE uptake and a growing Key Stage 5 cohort. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Geography teacher ready to step into leadership, or an established Head of Department seeking a fresh challenge in a high-impact setting.
The Role
As Head of Geography, you will provide clear vision, academic leadership and operational management for the department across Key Stages 3–5.
You will:
• Lead curriculum planning and sequencing across all year groups
• Drive high standards of teaching and learning through coaching and modelling
• Oversee GCSE and A-Level outcomes, ensuring strong progress and attainment
• Line manage and develop a team of Geography teachers
• Monitor data effectively to inform targeted interventions
• Promote enrichment opportunities, including fieldwork and local studies
• Contribute to whole-school improvement priorities
The Geography curriculum balances physical and human geography with a strong emphasis on enquiry, literacy and real-world relevance. Fieldwork remains central to the subject’s identity, with established links to urban and rural case study environments within and beyond Birmingham.

Experience teaching A-Level Geography would be advantageous, though not essential.
