Role Information

The school is seeking a reliable, practical, and safety-focused Caretaker to join their site team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Opening and closing the school site, ensuring buildings are secure

  • Conducting daily site checks, maintenance inspections, and safety audits

  • Performing minor repairs (plumbing, carpentry, painting, general maintenance)

  • Supervising contractors and ensuring work meets safety/compliance standards

  • Managing deliveries, moving furniture, and setting up rooms for events/exams

  • Maintaining outdoor areas: pathways, car parks, playgrounds, sports surfaces

  • Monitoring heating, lighting, alarm systems, and energy systems

  • Ensuring compliance with health & safety, fire safety, COSHH, and risk assessments

  • Responding to emergencies, callouts, and urgent maintenance needs

  • Supporting the site manager with long-term maintenance planning

This role suits someone practical, physically fit, proactive, and highly dependable.

Requirements

  • Experience in maintenance, caretaking, or facilities work

  • Strong DIY and repair skills

  • Understanding of health & safety and compliance

  • Ability to prioritise workload and respond quickly to urgent issues

  • Good communication skills and teamwork

  • Ability to carry out physical tasks and work outdoors when necessary

  • Security awareness and reliability
