Role Information
The school is looking for a compassionate, patient, and highly organised Welfare Officer to support student wellbeing needs.
Key responsibilities:
Acting as a first point of contact for students with emotional, behavioural, or wellbeing concerns
Providing daily pastoral support, guidance, and immediate intervention
Coordinating referrals to internal pastoral teams, counsellors, SENCO, and external agencies
Monitoring attendance, behaviour logs, safeguarding concerns, and patterns of need
Supporting safeguarding leads by gathering information and documenting concerns
Meeting with parents/carers to discuss welfare issues and support strategies
Maintaining accurate welfare records in line with GDPR and safeguarding protocols
Supporting students with medical needs, care plans, and emergency responses
Delivering small-group interventions related to wellbeing, resilience, emotional literacy
Supporting whole-school wellbeing initiatives and awareness campaigns
This role requires empathy, professionalism, strong communication, and the ability to build trust with young people and families.
Requirements
Experience in pastoral, welfare, safeguarding, or youth support roles
Strong understanding of child protection and safeguarding responsibilities
Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
Excellent record-keeping and organisational skills
Strong communication when working with students, families, and professionals
Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries
Commitment to the wellbeing and success of young people
