We are seeking a proactive and dependable School Caretaker for a well-resourced secondary school in Hatfield. This role is ideal for a multi-skilled individual who takes pride in site security and the physical upkeep of educational facilities.
The Snapshot
Location: Hatfield, Herts (Close to A1(M) and Hatfield Station)
Salary: Competitive (Hertfordshire County Council Scales)
Contract: Full-time, Permanent (Year-round)
Hours: Split shifts (e.g., 07:00–11:00 & 14:30–18:30)
Key Responsibilities
Site Security: Responsible for the daily unlocking and securing of the school gates and buildings, including the management of intruder alarms.
Maintenance: Carrying out reactive and planned repairs, including basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and decorating.
Compliance: Conducting weekly fire alarm tests, emergency lighting checks, and Legionella water temperature monitoring.
Grounds Upkeep: Ensuring the campus remains litter-free and safe during adverse weather (gritting and clearing during winter months).
Porterage: Arranging furniture for school exams, assemblies, and evening community events.
Candidate Profile
Practical Skills: Previous experience in a trade or general maintenance role is highly desirable.
Reliability: A trustworthy key-holder who is comfortable with early morning and late afternoon starts.
Communication: A friendly approach when interacting with staff, students, and external contractors.
Safeguarding: A commitment to the safety of young people; an Enhanced DBS check is mandatory.
