Role Overview
The Food Technician will support teachers and students in delivering high-quality food preparation, nutrition, and cooking lessons. This role is hands-on, practical, and vital to ensuring lessons run smoothly and safely.
Primary responsibilities include:
Preparing ingredients, equipment, and resources for practical food lessons
Maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety across all teaching kitchens
Supporting students during practicals, demonstrating safe use of equipment
Managing stock levels, ordering ingredients, and tracking deliveries
Setting up and clearing down workstations before and after lessons
Conducting routine maintenance checks on kitchen appliances and tools
Preparing demonstration materials and supporting teachers with classroom organisation
Ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and school health standards
Assisting with displays, coursework support, and food-based competitions or events
Maintaining accurate records related to stock, cleaning schedules, and safety checks

Food & Nutrition Department Information
The department consists of experienced teachers, technicians, and culinary specialists. The school offers multiple fully equipped kitchens, high-end tools, and excellent storage facilities. Lessons range from introductory skills to advanced culinary techniques.
The Food Technician will work closely with teaching staff and have opportunities to contribute to curriculum enrichment, such as food clubs, bake sales, competitions, and cultural food events.
Candidate Requirements
Experience in food preparation, catering, kitchen support, or similar environments
Strong understanding of food hygiene and safety (Level 2 Food Hygiene desirable)
Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently under time pressure
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Warm, patient, and supportive manner when working with children
Reliable, professional, and committed to maintaining high standards
Willingness to undertake training (e.g., food safety, safeguarding)
