Site Assistant – Surbiton
We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and practical Site Assistant to join a busy primary school in Surbiton, starting ASAP. This role is essential for maintaining a safe, clean, and well-organised school environment, supporting both pupils and staff in their day-to-day activities.
The school has a strong community ethos and places high value on teamwork, efficiency, and safety. As a Site Assistant, you will help ensure the school site is secure, functional, and welcoming, allowing teaching and learning to take place without interruption.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain the school premises, including classrooms, corridors, outdoor areas, and communal spaces
Carry out routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs
Ensure the school site is secure, including locking and unlocking buildings and monitoring access
Assist with setting up rooms and equipment for events, assemblies, and activities
Monitor building and equipment conditions, reporting issues as necessary
Oversee waste disposal, cleaning supplies, and stock levels
Support health and safety compliance, including fire drills and emergency procedures
Assist with deliveries, movement of resources, and site organisation
Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for staff, pupils, and visitors
Work collaboratively with school staff and external contractors
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
Have previous experience in site maintenance, caretaking, or a similar facilities role
Be practical, hands-on, and proactive
Have good organisational skills and attention to detail
Be able to work independently and manage time effectively
Possess basic DIY and maintenance skills
Be committed to safeguarding and ensuring a safe school environment
Be reliable, flexible, and responsive to the needs of the school
