A well-resourced secondary school in Newbury is seeking an experienced and creative Head of Art to lead its successful Art department from April 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Art specialist to take on a leadership role within a supportive school that values creativity, high standards, and staff development.
Art is a popular and well-established subject within the school, with strong student engagement and high-quality outcomes across KS3, KS4, and KS5.
The Role
Leading and managing the Art department across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Driving high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment within Art
Supporting and developing staff through mentoring, coaching, and performance management
Overseeing curriculum planning, coursework, and examination outcomes
Managing departmental resources, budgets, and displays
Contributing to whole-school initiatives and the wider creative curriculum
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
A degree in Art, Fine Art, or a related subject
Proven experience teaching Art at secondary level
Previous leadership experience within an Art department or readiness to step up
A strong track record of raising standards and pupil outcomes
Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills
