Year 1 Teacher – Southend
We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and experienced Year 1 Teacher to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Southend, starting as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about Key Stage 1 and enjoys helping children build confidence, independence, and a love of learning in their first year of formal education.

The Role
As a Year 1 Teacher, you will plan, deliver, and assess lessons across the Key Stage 1 curriculum. You will support pupils’ learning in literacy, numeracy, and foundation subjects while fostering independence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours. Working closely with teaching assistants, colleagues, and parents, you will ensure that each pupil receives consistent, personalised support tailored to their individual needs.
Monitoring pupil progress, providing interventions where required, and maintaining a positive, inclusive classroom environment will be central to your role. You will also support pupils transitioning from EYFS to Key Stage 1, helping them consolidate foundational skills and develop confidence.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across Year 1
Deliver engaging literacy, numeracy, and foundation subject lessons
Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL
Promote independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours
Maintain a structured, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
Track pupil progress and maintain accurate assessment records
Provide targeted interventions to support pupil attainment
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, colleagues, and senior leaders
Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress
Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and whole-school initiatives
Support enrichment activities, school events, and extra-curricular opportunities
Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed at all times
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Have experience teaching Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1
Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organisational skills
Be reflective, adaptable, and proactive
Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing
Work effectively as part of a professional and supportive team
