Year 2 Teacher – Portsmouth
We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and dedicated Year 2 Teacher to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Portsmouth, starting as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about Key Stage 1 and committed to delivering engaging lessons that inspire pupils and support their academic and personal development.

The Role
As a Year 2 Teacher, you will plan, deliver, and assess lessons across the Key Stage 1 curriculum. You will foster independence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours, helping pupils transition confidently from EYFS. You will differentiate learning to meet the diverse needs of all pupils, provide interventions where needed, and create a nurturing, structured classroom environment that encourages curiosity and engagement.
Collaboration with teaching assistants, colleagues, and parents is central to the role, ensuring pupils receive consistent support both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons across the Year 2 curriculum
Deliver high-quality literacy, numeracy, and foundation subject teaching
Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL
Promote independence, resilience, and positive behaviour
Maintain a structured, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
Track pupil progress and maintain accurate assessment records
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and colleagues
Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress
Contribute to staff meetings, CPD sessions, and whole-school initiatives
Support enrichment activities, school events, and extra-curricular opportunities
Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are strictly followed
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Have experience teaching Key Stage 1, ideally Year 2
Demonstrate excellent classroom management and organisational skills
Be reflective, proactive, and adaptable
Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing
Work collaboratively as part of a professional, supportive team
