EYFS Teaching Assistant – Hornchurch
We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and reliable EYFS Teaching Assistant to join a friendly and inclusive primary school in Hornchurch, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys supporting young children in their first year of formal education, helping them develop early literacy, numeracy, and social skills within a nurturing environment.

The Role
As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside the class teacher to support the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum. You will provide additional support for children who require one-to-one or small-group interventions, helping them access lessons and develop confidence and independence. You will also assist with classroom management, observation, and assessment to ensure children are making progress and enjoying their learning experience.
Your role will include creating a safe, structured, and stimulating learning environment, supporting children’s social, emotional, and communication development, and encouraging positive learning behaviours. Collaboration with colleagues and effective communication with parents and carers are key aspects of the position.
Key Responsibilities
Support classroom activities and play-based learning in EYFS
Assist with early literacy, numeracy, and phonics sessions
Provide targeted support for individual pupils or small groups
Encourage independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours
Observe and record children’s progress and report to the class teacher
Work collaboratively with teachers and other EYFS staff
Maintain a safe, structured, and stimulating classroom environment
Communicate effectively with colleagues and parents/carers
Uphold safeguarding procedures and promote pupil welfare
Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions
