Midday Meal Supervisor (Term-Time Only)
Location: Salford Borough
Employer: MDMS – School & Education Support Services
Hours: Part-Time | Approximately 1–2 hours per day, Monday to Friday
Making Lunchtimes Safer, Happier, and More Positive
MDMS is proud to support schools across Greater Manchester by providing reliable, caring, and professional staff for key roles within the school day. We are currently seeking Midday Meal Supervisors to work in primary schools throughout the Salford borough, helping children enjoy a calm, safe, and structured lunchtime experience.
For many pupils, lunchtime is the most social part of the school day. It’s a chance to relax, play, and connect with friends. It’s also a time when clear boundaries, positive role models, and attentive supervision make a huge difference. As a Midday Meal Supervisor with MDMS, you will be right at the heart of this important daily routine.
About the Role
This is a term-time only, part-time role that fits perfectly around other responsibilities. You’ll be working closely with school staff to supervise pupils during lunch, both while they are eating and during indoor or outdoor play.
No two days are the same. One moment you may be helping younger children settle at tables and encouraging good manners, and the next you could be supervising playground games or supporting children to resolve small disagreements. Your calm presence and clear guidance will help ensure lunchtimes remain enjoyable and inclusive for all.
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As a Midday Meal Supervisor in Salford schools, your responsibilities will include:
Supervising children as they enter and leave the dining area in a safe and orderly manner
Supporting pupils during mealtimes, including helping younger children with food where appropriate
Encouraging polite behaviour, independence, and respect for others
Being aware of allergies, medical needs, and dietary requirements
Monitoring behaviour and responding appropriately to minor incidents
Supervising playground activities and ensuring children play safely
Encouraging inclusive play and supporting children who may struggle socially
De-escalating minor conflicts calmly and fairly
Providing reassurance and guidance to pupils who may feel upset or overwhelmed
Administering basic first aid when required (training provided)
Reporting safeguarding or welfare concerns in line with school procedures
Working cooperatively with teaching staff and senior lunchtime supervisors
Your role is not disciplinary — it is supportive, observant, and proactive, helping children feel safe, valued, and understood.
Who This Role Is Ideal For
You do not need formal qualifications to apply. MDMS values people with the right attitude, reliability, and a genuine interest in child wellbeing.
This role may be especially suitable if you are:

A teaching assistant or school volunteer looking to gain additional experience
A retiree or career-changer wanting meaningful, part-time work
