Teach and Inspire Pupils at the Start of Key Stage 1
We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and experienced Year 1 Teacher to join a welcoming primary school in Bishop’s Stortford, starting as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity to teach pupils as they transition from Early Years Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1, helping them consolidate their early learning while fostering a love of reading, writing, and maths.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for a Year 1 class, delivering high-quality, engaging lessons across the curriculum. You will join a supportive Key Stage 1 team where collaborative planning, reflection, and professional development are encouraged. Leadership is approachable and committed to providing guidance and resources to enable teachers to succeed.
The Role
As a Year 1 Teacher, you will plan, deliver, and assess lessons that challenge pupils while supporting a wide range of abilities. You will use assessment to monitor pupil progress, identify gaps in learning, and inform future planning. Supporting pupils’ social and emotional development is a key aspect of the role, helping them build confidence, resilience, and independence.
You will work closely with teaching assistants, colleagues, and senior leaders to ensure consistency and high-quality teaching across Key Stage 1. Effective communication with parents and carers is essential to keep them informed about their child’s learning and progress.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 1 curriculum
Monitor pupil progress and use assessment to inform planning and differentiation
Support pupils with varying learning needs, including SEND and EAL learners
Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
Promote positive behaviour, resilience, and independence
Collaborate with teaching assistants and Key Stage 1 colleagues
Communicate effectively with parents and carers
Participate in staff meetings, CPD, and school-wide initiatives
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Have experience teaching Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1
Be confident in curriculum delivery, assessment, and differentiation
Have excellent classroom management and organisational skills
Be reflective, proactive, and adaptable
Demonstrate commitment to inclusive practice and safeguarding
Have a positive, professional approach to teamwork
