An Upper Key Stage 2 Role With Impact
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Year 5 Teacher to join a well-established primary school in Reading, starting as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity to teach pupils in Upper Key Stage 2, helping them develop independence, resilience, and confidence as they prepare for Year 6 and beyond.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging, well-planned lessons across the Year 5 curriculum, ensuring pupils are challenged academically while being supported emotionally. The school prides itself on a collaborative culture, professional development, and high expectations for both pupils and staff.
You will join a supportive KS2 team, working alongside colleagues to share best practices, support learning, and promote a consistent approach across the phase. Leadership is approachable and committed to staff growth and wellbeing.
Your Role
In this position, you will plan, deliver, and assess lessons that meet the needs of all pupils. You will provide opportunities for pupils to develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity, ensuring every child can achieve their potential.
You will also play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, resilience, and independence in learning.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons aligned with the Year 5 curriculum
Use assessment effectively to track progress and target support
Differentiate learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and EAL learners
Maintain a focused, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment
Promote positive behaviour and encourage independence
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and KS2 colleagues
Communicate effectively with parents and carers
Contribute to staff meetings, planning sessions, and CPD opportunities
Support pupils’ personal and social development alongside academic growth
Who We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will be:
A qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experienced in Key Stage 2, ideally Year 5
Confident in curriculum delivery, assessment, and differentiation
Organised, reflective, and adaptable
Strong in classroom management and pupil engagement
Committed to inclusive practice and safeguarding
Willing to contribute positively to the wider school community
Early Career Teachers are encouraged to apply and will be supported with mentoring.
