Lead Learning in Upper Key Stage 2

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and committed Year 5 Teacher to join our primary school in Northampton, starting as soon as possible. This is an exciting opportunity to teach upper Key Stage 2 pupils, supporting their academic and personal development as they prepare for the transition into Year 6 and beyond.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging lessons across the curriculum, providing challenge and support to meet the needs of all learners. You will play a key role in developing pupils’ literacy, numeracy, and wider skills, fostering independence, confidence, and a love of learning. You will work closely with colleagues in Key Stage 2, sharing ideas and strategies to enhance teaching and learning, while contributing to whole-school initiatives that ensure continuity, progression, and high expectations for every pupil.

Role Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and assess lessons across the Year 5 curriculum in line with the National Curriculum

• Monitor pupil progress using assessment data to inform planning and target support

• Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all pupils, including SEND and higher-attaining learners

• Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that promotes engagement and curiosity

• Support pupils’ social, emotional, and personal development

• Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, colleagues, and senior leaders to maintain high standards and consistency

• Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding pupil progress and achievements

• Participate in staff meetings, CPD sessions, and school-wide initiatives

• Encourage pupils to develop independence, resilience, and confidence in their learning

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

• Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Have experience teaching upper Key Stage 2, ideally Year 5

• Demonstrate strong subject knowledge in literacy, numeracy, and the wider curriculum

• Be confident in differentiating lessons to meet the diverse needs of pupils

• Have excellent classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment

• Be collaborative, reflective, and committed to professional development

• Show dedication to safeguarding, inclusion, and promoting pupils’ wellbeing
