The Role
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Garston, Liverpool, is seeking a dedicated, calm, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis with an immediate start. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and committed to helping pupils develop confidence, independence, and positive relationships within the school environment.
You will be supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH needs, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing challenges, and moderate learning difficulties. Support will be delivered on a 1:1 basis and through targeted small group interventions, depending on individual pupil requirements outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Key Responsibilities
As an SEN Teaching Assistant in Garston, your responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 SEN support to pupils with additional needs
Supporting small group interventions focusing on literacy, numeracy, communication, and emotional regulation
Assisting pupils to access the curriculum alongside their peers
Implementing strategies outlined in EHCPs, IEPs, and behaviour support plans
Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and social interaction
Encouraging positive behaviour, independence, and self-confidence
Working closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and wider support staff
Supporting pupils during transitions, playtimes, and lunchtimes
Using visual supports, sensory resources, and differentiated learning materials
Monitoring pupil progress and recording observations
Providing feedback to teaching staff and contributing to review meetings
Supporting personal care where required (training provided if necessary)
Maintaining a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment
Upholding safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times
The Ideal Candidate
The school is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant who:
Has experience supporting children with SEN in a school or care setting
Is patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient
Has a strong understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and communication needs
Is confident supporting behaviour using positive behaviour strategies
Is flexible, proactive, and reliable
Has strong communication and teamwork skills
Is available for an ASAP start
Is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs, sensory integration strategies, speech and language interventions, or SEMH support is highly desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
