Role Purpose
The EYFS Teaching Assistant will work closely with the class teacher and EYFS lead to support children aged 3–5 across Nursery and Reception. This role involves supporting learning, behaviour, and development through play-based and structured activities.
Key objectives include:
Supporting children with SEN and EAL in accessing the EYFS curriculum
Encouraging confidence, independence, and social skills
Assisting with the planning and delivery of activities that foster early literacy, numeracy, and creative skills
Key Responsibilities
Support the delivery of the EYFS curriculum through both adult-led and child-initiated learning
Provide one-to-one or small group support for children with SEN, EAL, or additional learning needs
Assist with phonics, reading, early numeracy, and creative development activities
Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and self-regulation
Support classroom routines, transitions, snack times, and outdoor play
Observe, assess, and document children’s progress in line with EYFS standards
Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, external specialists, and parents to ensure consistent support
Maintain safeguarding, health, and safety standards at all times
Support children’s emotional wellbeing and social development
The Ideal Candidate
The school is seeking a caring, patient, and reliable EYFS Teaching Assistant who:
Has experience or interest in EYFS settings
Understands child development and the EYFS framework
Is confident supporting SEN, EAL, and diverse learners
Maintains a calm, empathetic, and consistent approach
Demonstrates excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
Can adapt to a busy, multicultural classroom environment
Training and Development
