Role Purpose
The EYFS Teaching Assistant will work closely with the EYFS lead and class teacher to support children aged 3–5. The role involves:
Delivering structured and play-based activities that promote learning across all EYFS areas
Providing one-to-one or small group support for children with additional needs
Supporting pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development
You will be instrumental in ensuring children with SEN or EAL can access learning and build confidence in the classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support the delivery of the EYFS curriculum through both adult-led and child-initiated activities
Assist with phonics, early literacy, numeracy, and creative learning
Provide targeted support to pupils with SEN or EAL
Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and self-regulation
Help manage classroom routines, transitions, and daily activities including snack time, outdoor play, and circle time
Observe, assess, and document children’s progress
Collaborate effectively with teachers, SENCO, external specialists, and parents
Maintain safeguarding, health, and safety standards at all times
The Ideal Candidate
The school seeks a patient, nurturing, and reliable EYFS Teaching Assistant with:
Experience in EYFS or early years settings
Knowledge of EYFS framework and child development principles
Interest or experience in supporting SEN and inclusive education
Calm, consistent, and empathetic approach
Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
Flexibility and resilience in a busy, diverse classroom
Training and Development
