Role Purpose

The EYFS Teaching Assistant will work closely with the EYFS lead and class teacher to support children aged 3–5. The role involves:

• Delivering structured and play-based activities that promote learning across all EYFS areas

• Providing one-to-one or small group support for children with additional needs

• Supporting pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development

You will be instrumental in ensuring children with SEN or EAL can access learning and build confidence in the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of the EYFS curriculum through both adult-led and child-initiated activities

• Assist with phonics, early literacy, numeracy, and creative learning

• Provide targeted support to pupils with SEN or EAL

• Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and self-regulation

• Help manage classroom routines, transitions, and daily activities including snack time, outdoor play, and circle time

• Observe, assess, and document children’s progress

• Collaborate effectively with teachers, SENCO, external specialists, and parents

• Maintain safeguarding, health, and safety standards at all times

The Ideal Candidate

The school seeks a patient, nurturing, and reliable EYFS Teaching Assistant with:

• Experience in EYFS or early years settings

• Knowledge of EYFS framework and child development principles

• Interest or experience in supporting SEN and inclusive education

• Calm, consistent, and empathetic approach

• Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills

• Flexibility and resilience in a busy, diverse classroom

Training and Development
