Teaching Assistants are highly valued members of the team and play a central role in supporting pupils’ learning, behaviour, and development.
Due to an increase in pupils requiring additional support in Nursery and Reception, the school is now seeking a skilled and compassionate EYFS Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team.
Role Purpose
The EYFS Teaching Assistant will support children aged 3–5, helping them to develop early literacy, numeracy, communication, and social skills. You will work closely with the class teacher and EYFS Lead to support both adult-led activities and child-initiated play.
A significant element of this role involves supporting children with high-needs SEN, including autism, speech and language delay, global developmental delay, and emotional or behavioural needs. You will help ensure that all children can access learning and feel safe, supported, and confident within the school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support EYFS learning activities in line with the EYFS framework
Provide one-to-one and small group interventions for targeted support
Support pupils with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, and communication needs
Assist with phonics, early reading, mark-making, and early maths
Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence
Support classroom routines including transitions, carpet time, and snack time
Assist with outdoor learning and physical development activities
Observe, assess, and record children’s progress
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, therapists, and external agencies
Support children with personal care needs where required
Maintain safeguarding, health, and safety standards at all times
The Ideal Candidate

You should demonstrate:
Experience working within EYFS or early years settings
Strong understanding of child development and inclusive practice
Experience or strong interest in high-needs SEN support
A calm, consistent, and empathetic approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively
Training and Career Progression
