With increasing pupil need in Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1, the school is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Behaviour Mentor.
Role Purpose
The Behaviour Mentor will support children who experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour management, or social interaction. Pupils may present with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, attachment-related behaviours, or delays in emotional and social development.
You will provide direct support to children through structured 1:1 mentoring, small group interventions, and classroom support. You will also work alongside teachers, EYFS staff, and the pastoral team to implement consistent strategies that improve behaviour, confidence, and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 emotional and behavioural support for pupils
Lead small group interventions focused on social skills, self-regulation, and emotional literacy
Support children within Nursery and Key Stage 1 classrooms
Assist with transitions, routines, and coping strategies for daily activities
Support behaviour management during unstructured periods, including playtimes and lunchtimes
Implement and monitor behaviour support plans and interventions
Use play-based, restorative, and trauma-informed strategies
Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation for pupils
Observe, assess, and record pupil progress and responses to interventions
Maintain detailed records and contribute to review and planning meetings
Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, pastoral staff, and external agencies
Engage and communicate effectively with parents and carers
Support safeguarding, child protection, and wellbeing policies
Contribute to promoting a school culture of empathy, inclusion, and respect
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be emotionally intelligent, patient, and resilient, with a genuine passion for supporting young children. You will be able to identify triggers for challenging behaviour and respond in a calm, consistent, and empathetic manner.
The candidate should have:
Experience working in Primary, Nursery, or EYFS settings
Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, trauma-informed approaches, and attachment difficulties
Confidence delivering behaviour interventions and monitoring outcomes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Emotional resilience and reflective practice
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of children and staff
Qualifications in childcare, education, psychology, youth work, or mental health are desirable.
Training, Support, and Career Development
