The Role
We are looking for a passionate, patient, and skilled EYFS Teaching Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality support to children aged 3–5, helping them develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
The role involves working closely with the EYFS Lead and classroom teachers to plan and implement engaging activities that meet the developmental needs of all children. You will help create a nurturing environment that encourages exploration, independence, and a love of learning.
This role is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about early years education, enjoys working with young children, and can foster positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
Support children in EYFS classrooms, providing individual and group guidance as needed.
Assist with planning and implementing age-appropriate learning activities across all areas of the EYFS curriculum, including literacy, numeracy, expressive arts, and physical development.
Observe, record, and assess children’s progress to inform next steps in learning.
Encourage and support children’s personal, social, and emotional development, helping them build confidence and resilience.
Support children with communication and language development, including phonics and vocabulary acquisition.
Work closely with the EYFS team to prepare resources and learning environments that are stimulating, safe, and inclusive.
Promote positive behaviour through modelling, encouragement, and the consistent application of school policies.
Liaise with parents to provide feedback on children’s progress and support home–school links.
Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all children at all times, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.
Support transitions between nursery, reception, and Year 1 to ensure a smooth progression for all children.
Facilitate play-based learning, including structured and exploratory activities, to encourage curiosity and problem-solving skills.
Assist children with additional needs, including early identification and support for SEND pupils in collaboration with the SENCo.
Supervise children during meal times, outdoor play, and group activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
Person Specification
We are looking for a candidate who:
Has experience working with EYFS-aged children or in early years settings.
Demonstrates patience, empathy, and understanding of young children’s development.
Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills with both children and adults.
Is able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Possesses strong organisation skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Has knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety procedures.
Understands the principles of child-centred learning and play-based education.
Experience or interest in supporting children with SEND is highly desirable.
Holds relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 in Early Years or Childcare, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrates creativity and initiative in developing engaging and inclusive learning activities.
