We are a well-established and highly regarded primary school located in the borough of Camden, North London, seeking to appoint a dedicated, enthusiastic, and professional Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Teaching Assistant to join our Early Years team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about early childhood education and committed to supporting young children during the most formative stage of their learning and development.
Our school serves a diverse local community and is proud of its inclusive ethos, strong pastoral care, and commitment to high-quality teaching and learning. We believe that a positive start to education is essential, and our Early Years provision is carefully designed to support children’s academic, social, emotional, and physical development in a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment. We are therefore seeking an EYFS Teaching Assistant who shares our values and is eager to contribute positively to the life of the school.
The Role
As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and the wider Early Years team to support children in Nursery and/or Reception. You will play a vital role in helping to deliver a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. The successful candidate will support children across all areas of learning, helping them to develop early communication, language, literacy, numeracy, and personal, social, and emotional skills.
You will assist in creating a welcoming and well-organised learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, where children feel confident, curious, and motivated to learn. This role requires a warm, patient, and observant individual who understands the importance of learning through play and is able to respond effectively to the individual needs of young children.
Key Responsibilities
The EYFS Teaching Assistant will be expected to undertake a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Supporting the class teacher in the planning and delivery of high-quality learning activities in line with the EYFS framework
Working with individual children and small groups to support learning, development, and early intervention
Assisting children with developing independence, confidence, and positive relationships with peers and adults
Supporting children’s communication and language development, including early phonics and vocabulary building
Helping to observe, assess, and record children’s progress and achievements
Supporting children during structured learning, free-flow play, and outdoor learning sessions
Assisting with personal care routines where necessary, including toileting and changing in line with school policy
Encouraging positive behaviour and supporting children’s emotional regulation
Helping to maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating learning environment
Supporting children during transition times, including the start of the school day, lunchtimes, and movement between activities
Working collaboratively with teachers, Early Years practitioners, and other support staff
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a professional and committed individual who has a genuine interest in early childhood development and a clear understanding of the EYFS curriculum. You should be patient, nurturing, and enthusiastic, with the ability to engage young children and support them in developing a love of learning.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Experience working with children in an EYFS setting (school, nursery, or early years provision)
A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A calm, positive, and caring approach to working with young children
The ability to work effectively as part of a team
A proactive and flexible attitude
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
A relevant Early Years qualification (such as a Level 2 or Level 3 in Childcare or Early Years Education) is desirable, though not essential for candidates with strong practical experience.
