About the School
A diverse and inclusive secondary school in West London is looking for an experienced and committed Behaviour Mentor to join its pastoral team. The school serves students aged 11–16 and has a strong focus on supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, as well as those at risk of disengaging from mainstream education.
The school values a restorative and trauma-informed approach to behaviour management. The Behaviour Mentor role is central to ensuring that students who face emotional or behavioural challenges receive consistent guidance, support, and mentoring to help them succeed academically and socially.
About the Role
The Behaviour Mentor will work directly with students who require additional support to manage their emotions, behaviour, and engagement in learning. You will provide one-to-one mentoring sessions, small group interventions, and in-class support where necessary. The aim is to develop students’ self-regulation, social skills, and resilience, while promoting positive behaviour and engagement.
You will work closely with teachers, pastoral leads, SENCo, and safeguarding teams to ensure a joined-up approach for every student. Your role will include developing behaviour support plans, monitoring progress, and liaising with parents and external agencies when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Provide structured one-to-one mentoring for students with SEMH needs
Support students with anxiety, trauma-related behaviours, ADHD, and other social/emotional difficulties
Deliver small group interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour
Support students during lessons to maintain engagement and focus
De-escalate challenging situations using calm, restorative, and trauma-informed approaches
Monitor attendance, behaviour incidents, and academic engagement
Collaborate with teachers and pastoral teams to implement strategies and personalised plans
Support transitions between lessons, breaktimes, and lunchtimes
Maintain accurate records and contribute to review meetings
Engage with parents, carers, and external agencies as appropriate
Promote a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Experience working with adolescents, ideally in SEMH or challenging behaviour contexts
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Emotional resilience and patience
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare
Experience in alternative provision, youth work, mentoring, social care, or counselling is highly advantageous. Training in Team Teach or positive behaviour support is desirable but not essential.
