A popular primary school in Wandsworth is seeking an enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to join the team from January 2026. The successful Year 1 Teacher will deliver a structured phonics programme, plan progressive Year 1 lessons that build early reading, writing and number, and lead small-group practice to secure strong progress. This Year 1 Teacher role in Wandsworth will begin January 2026, with induction and planning time scheduled before January 2026 so the Year 1 Teacher can start the spring term confidently.

The Year 1 Teacher will design engaging, differentiated lessons that develop core skills and independence, lead guided-reading and phonics groups, and collaborate with teaching assistants to scaffold learning. The Year 1 Teacher will use assessment to set precise next steps, liaise with parents about progress and contribute to year-group moderation across the Wandsworth school. We welcome Year 1 Teacher applicants who are reflective, organised and passionate about early primary practice.

Responsibilities

• Plan and teach sequenced Year 1 lessons that develop phonics, early reading and number fluency.
• Deliver guided-reading and phonics groups and run focused small-group practice.
• Use assessment to identify next steps and adapt provision to accelerate progress.
• Work with TAs to prepare resources, scaffold tasks and maintain consistent routines.
• Engage parents and carers, reporting on progress and supporting home-learning in Wandsworth.

Person specification

• Qualified teacher with recent KS1 experience and demonstrable Year 1 classroom impact.
• Strong phonics knowledge, confident assessment practice and effective behaviour-management.
• Patient, organised and committed to working in Wandsworth; available to start January 2026.
