A popular primary school in Slough is seeking an enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to join the team from January 2026. The successful Year 1 Teacher will deliver a structured phonics programme, plan progressive Year 1 lessons that build early reading, writing and number, and lead small-group practice to secure strong progress. This Year 1 Teacher role in Slough will commence January 2026, with induction and planning time scheduled before January 2026 so the Year 1 Teacher can start the spring term confidently.

The Year 1 Teacher will design engaging, differentiated lessons that develop core skills and independence, lead guided-reading and phonics groups, and collaborate with teaching assistants to scaffold learning. The Year 1 Teacher will use assessment to set precise next steps, liaise with parents about progress and contribute to year-group moderation across the Slough school. We welcome Year 1 Teacher applicants who are reflective, organised and passionate about early primary practice.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver sequenced Year 1 lessons that develop phonics, early reading and number sense.
• Lead guided-reading and phonics groups and run focused small-group work to accelerate progress.
• Use assessment information to set next steps, adapt provision and monitor impact for Year 1 pupils.
• Work with teaching assistants to scaffold learning, prepare resources and ensure consistency across Slough.
• Contribute to year-group planning, moderation and whole-school events that enrich Year 1 learning.

Person specification

• Qualified teacher with recent Year 1 or KS1 experience and demonstrable impact in early years.
• Strong phonics knowledge, excellent classroom routines and the ability to create a nurturing Year 1 environment.
• Excellent communicator, organised and committed to contributing positively to the Slough school community.
• Available to take up post January 2026 and to attend induction and handover before January 2026.
