A popular primary school in Islington is recruiting an ambitious Year 5 Teacher to join the Key Stage 2 phase from January 2026. The successful Year 5 Teacher will plan and deliver sequenced, knowledge-rich lessons that develop pupils’ reading, writing, maths and wider curriculum understanding. This Year 5 Teacher will lead booster groups, run targeted interventions and contribute to moderation across the phase. The post begins January 2026, with induction and planning time scheduled in the weeks before January 2026 so the Year 5 Teacher can start the spring term confidently.

The Year 5 Teacher will design challenging lessons, use assessment to set precise next steps and foster pupils’ independence and resilience. In Islington, the school provides strong CPD and a supportive leadership team to help the Year 5 Teacher develop professionally and make a measurable impact.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver ambitious Year 5 lessons that build knowledge, reasoning and fluency.
• Use assessment effectively to identify priorities and lead high-impact small-group teaching.
• Monitor pupil progress, run booster sessions and adapt planning to close gaps.
• Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and phase leaders to ensure continuity across Year 5.
• Engage parents and carers about progress and support children’s wider development in Islington.

Person specification

• Qualified teacher with proven KS2 experience and strong Year 5 classroom practice.
• Confident planner with secure subject knowledge and effective behaviour strategies.
• Data-aware, reflective and committed to working in the Islington school community.
• Available to commence January 2026 and attend induction prior to January 2026.
