Year 1 Teacher | Merton | January 2026
A warm primary school in Merton is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to start January 2026. The Year 1 Teacher will plan sequenced lessons that establish secure foundations in phonics, early reading, emergent writing and number sense. The Year 1 Teacher will collaborate with the KS1 team to implement targeted interventions and to maintain a calm, purposeful classroom that supports learning and wellbeing.
• Year 1 Teacher required for a full-time KS1 position

Merton’s school community values close home–school partnerships and provides structured CPD. The Year 1 Teacher will take part in induction sessions and planning meetings in the lead-up to January 2026 and will join a supportive phase team committed to continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality Year 1 lessons that promote phonics progression and early literacy.
- Use assessment to identify needs and run effective small-group support to close gaps.
- Work with teaching assistants to scaffold learning and to provide targeted interventions.
- Maintain accurate records of progress and engage parents with clear feedback and next steps.
- Participate in whole-school events, moderation and curriculum development activities.
Person specification
- Qualified teacher with recent Year 1 or early-primary experience and strong phonics knowledge.
- Reflective, organised and able to create an inclusive classroom environment in Merton.
- Committed to professional development and ready to start January 2026, attending pre-term induction.
- Enthusiastic about contributing to the wider school community and to pupils’ long-term success.
