The successful Year 1 Teacher will plan and teach a sequenced Year 1 curriculum, secure early reading and phonics progress, and shape the learning habits that underpin later success. The Year 1 Teacher will benefit from a supportive leadership team, helpful TAs and a clear CPD pathway. The appointed Year 1 Teacher will commence duties in January 2026 and will contribute to termly planning from January 2026.
Position Details
Year 1 Teacher – Lewisham school
Start Date – January 2026
Contract – Permanent, Full-Time
The Role
As Year 1 Teacher, you will design lessons that build robust phonics, reading fluency and number sense. The Year 1 Teacher will assess progress carefully, adapt teaching to meet learners’ needs and work closely with parents to celebrate achievement. You will also lead small-group interventions and support transition arrangements into KS1. The successful Year 1 Teacher will be based in Lewisham and will play a central part in the school’s early-years-to-KS1 progression.
Person specification for the Year 1 Teacher:
• QTS/PGCE and proven experience teaching Year 1 as the Year 1 Teacher.
• Strong phonics, early writing and formative assessment skills for the Year 1 Teacher.
• Excellent communication and the ability to start January 2026 in Lewisham.
