Head of History – Lead Historical Scholarship and Drive Rigorous Debate in an Academic Boarding School – Oxfordshire (Independent)

A well-regarded independent senior boarding school in Oxfordshire is seeking a highly academic Head of History to drive scholarship and debate from January 2026.

This leadership role involves setting the strategic direction for History, teaching A-Level/Pre-U History to high-ability students, and running the Oxbridge preparation programme. You will lead the department, ensuring exceptionally rigorous academic standards in research and debate.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree in History (Masters or PhD from a leading university is highly desirable)
  • Proven experience leading an academic subject and securing top results at A-Level/Pre-U
  • Extensive experience with the Oxbridge application process for History
  • Capacity for inspiring leadership and effective academic mentorship
