About the Role This academically selective Independent Girls' School in Birmingham is seeking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of A-Level Psychology. This role is a vital maternity cover position, commencing in January 2026 for one year. The school welcomes applications for both full-time and part-time (minimum 0.6 FTE) arrangements. The ideal candidate will be passionate about maintaining the department's exceptional standards and contributing to the intellectual ambition of its bright pupils. Applications are welcomed from all backgrounds, including Early Career Teachers (ECTs) or those entering the independent sector for the first time.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous lessons following the AQA A-Level Psychology specification for both Lower and Upper Sixth groups.
- Contribute to the department’s commitment to extending learning beyond the classroom through organising trips, visits, and external speakers.
- Provide targeted intervention, revision, and support sessions to ensure all students achieve their full potential, maintaining the department’s record of excellent examination results.
- Participate enthusiastically in the co-curricular and pastoral life of the school, potentially supporting the well-attended, student-led Psychology Clubs.
- Uphold the mission of providing an unrivalled education to the brightest girls in and around Birmingham.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent and a relevant degree specialism in Psychology or a closely related discipline.
- Proven ability (or clear potential for an ECT) to teach Psychology to A-Level.
- A deep commitment to intellectual rigour and developing the highest quality of scholarship.
- Exceptional communication skills and a desire to work collaboratively within a thriving faculty.
- A willingness to contribute actively to the wider school community.
