Design & Technology Technician - Wandsworth, South London 🛠️

We're recruiting for a skilled and proactive Design & Technology (D&T) Technician to join a supportive secondary school in Wandsworth. This is an essential role for an individual who is passionate about practical skills and ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of a thriving D&T department.

The Role

The school is looking for a technician who can provide crucial technical support across various D&T specialisms, including resistant materials, graphics, and possibly food/textiles. You will be responsible for:

• Workshop Preparation: Preparing materials and equipment for D&T lessons, practical exams, and coursework projects (KS3 to A-Level).
• Equipment Maintenance: Maintaining and repairing tools, machinery (including lathes, pillar drills, saws), and specialist equipment (e.g., laser cutters, 3D printers, CAD/CAM systems).
• Health and Safety: Ensuring the D&T workshop and preparation areas comply with all health and safety regulations, conducting regular risk assessments, and safely disposing of waste.
• Stock Management: Managing inventory, ordering new materials and components, and maintaining stock levels.
• In-Class Support: Providing technical assistance to both students and teachers during practical lessons, demonstrating the safe use of tools and machinery.

Candidate Requirements

To be considered for this crucial support role, you should have:

• Proven practical skills and experience working in a workshop environment, ideally within a school or educational setting.
• Technical knowledge across a range of D&T areas, with a focus on materials, processes, and tools.
• A strong understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation (e.g., COSHH) and practical safety procedures.
• Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a busy workload.
• Proficiency in, or a willingness to learn, the operation and maintenance of specialist equipment like laser cutters and 3D printers.
